A variety of Beryl, Emerald is a precious gemstone.
Origin-: The name emerald is thought to be the Ancient Greek word “smaragdos” meaning green stone.
Other Names-: Panna, Markat, Samargdos, Tarkshya, Zamurrad, Smarlda, Esmaurde.
Color-: Deep green can have slightly yellowish or blue tones.
Varieties-:
- Brazillian Emerald refers to green Tourmaline from Brazil.
- Cat’s eyes Emerald only exist on paler Emeralds.
- Colombian Emerald is usually regarded as the highest quality.
- Star Emerald synonym of Trapiche Emerald.
- Trapiche Emerald with black impurities in the form of six-rayed stars.
- Zambian Emerald can have very good color and transparency.
Hardness-: 7.5-8 with a hexagonal crystal structure.
Luster-: Vitreous.
Transparency-: Transparent to opaque.
